Yeah, I know. In fact, my quick post of this pic on Saturday was titled "A Ranchero that looks like a happy dog".

Falcon Ranchero, '63. Last year before they widened it - lightest Ranchero (60-63) they ever made. The objective here being to make it go like a rocket, and my existing Ford 8" with collapsed leaves wasn't going to cut it. I will have to narrow the IRS a bit - it's about 60" hub to hub and the existing diff is 55". Fortunately, that's not terribly hard.

Nice! I have a monster of a 1973 Gran Torino it's a Q-Code car matching numbers even. Bastard still has the origional 9" rear and 3.7something gears in it. I hope yours can become a rocket of a ranchero!

The Jag IRS is from an XJ-S: it's a 2.88 PowerLock. It's a little tall, but on middling diameter 28" tires (small car) will make for 72 mph at 2500 RPM and allow for quite a high top speed - decent blend of economy and performance. The original narrow-track IRS as found in the E-type and 420 is the right width exactly, but those are much harder to find. I figure I'll just narrow this one to the right spec using that as a guide.
The Rover V-8 weighs the same as the Falcon Thriftpower Six, so combining the rearward weight shift I6->V8 with me moving it into the heater box/firewall about 5-6 inches, I shouldn't have to beef up the front suspension at all, unlike a typical Sprint. I will go for stiffer springs, but the rest of it should be pretty much solid.
